Cthulhu cabin, Alcove #, Sunday afternoon

Hermione's having another really bad day. This would be due to the pile of rubble that is now the school (and don't think that didn't get a freaked out squeak from her), a return to the dorms to drop off her things and wtf, only to find a note from Rikku that reminds her that they're back in cabins. She's been a little distracted. She packs up her things again, despite still not feeling well apart from what can be politely described as the jet lag from hell, and goes to find Cthulhu cabin.

Once there, she puts her things in the empty alcove on her side and makes two phone calls before settling in.

[I've never known what alcove to be in.
Open, especially if she called you.]

Hermione gets up to open the door, smiling when she sees Rikku. "Hi," she says, letting her in.

"Hey!" Rikku stepped through the doorway, holding a cardboard box in front of her. "My wrapping sucks, but I got you something. From Spira. How were exams?! Did you kick butt on them? 'Cause I know you had to."

"You didn't have to do that," Hermione says, taking the box. "And I think I did all right. It was a bit hectic at the end there and Ancient Runes had a few mistakes I could kick myself for..."

"I'm sure you did way better than you think. Were there more finals at the end of the week, then?"

"It's not much. I was going to get you a couple of history-of-Spira type books? But there really aren't that many, 'cause Yevon kinda trashed a lot of them. If you wanna know anything, you have to find this old guy who knows it all and get him to tell you. So ..." She gestured vaguely to the box. "He made some memory spheres. You'll have to listen to him, and he takes forever to get to the point, but he knows a lot of cool stuff."

"Oh!" Speaking of books had reminded her. "The school was blown up by aliens, but I wasn't here. And nobody was hurt too bad and the library is totally, totally safe."

She opens the box, studying its contents and grinning broadly. "Thank you so much, Rikku. This is so cool," she says, and yes, it even warrants 'cool'. "And yeah, I was taking tests every day. I think it's Thursday for me now, really.

"...Blown up by aliens?"

"Oh! I'm glad you like them!" Rikku smiled broadly. "And whoa, that's gotta mess with you. The whole messing around with days thing. It's Sunday, if nobody told you yet."

And nodded. "Yeah, some weird alien things invaded graduation and zapped the school. The dorms are okay and all that and nobody was hurt too badly. I can't believe I missed it!"

"I hope they'll have rebuilt it for fall," Hermione says, frowning. "So, how was your trip?"

"They should, right? I mean, if not, maybe we can have classes out here, and all of that. Although the summer classes seem kind of ... unusual. In a good way. I'm taking one about annoying teachers, and, Hermione? I can't get in trouble for it." She stopped to put a hand over her heart. "I can't believe I'm gonna get away with that one."

"The trip home was awesome. We went boarding everywhere, and Yunie, with Tidus! I cried. I don't care if that's silly. We ended up not killing fiends but it's okay. And we took in a blitz game and rode chocobos and I have so many pictures and I'm gonna make you sit through them sometime." She sighed contentedly. "Oh! How about you? I mean, I know you had exams mostly, but you got to see your friends again, right?"

Hermione's jaw just drops at the thought of a class about annoying teachers. In order to not have an aneurysm on the spot, she says, "I'm so glad you had a good time. Mine was.... It started out good. The last couple of days were something like a disaster."

Rikku eyed her roommate, trying to read her expression. "Because ... exams and all that, or ... something else? Is ... is everything okay?"

"Rikku, it was..." She takes a deep breath. "Harry got this completely wrong idea in his head and wanted to go running off to London because he was so convinced he was right, only he wasn't, and there were Death Eaters and apparently Voldemort showed up and someone was killed and..." Another sigh. "It went very badly."

"Oh, Hermione!" Rikku gaped for a moment, then reached over to pull her roommate into a hug. "I'm so, so sorry. Are you okay? Is ... oh, no."

"The Death Eaters ... those are the ones that you're all fighting against, right? And ... oh, no. Who ... who was ... killed?" She bit her lip. "A ... a friend of yours?"

Hermione's totally okay with a hug. "That's them," she says. "It was my best friend's godfather. We stayed at his house last summer, and at Christmas. Harry was convinced he was in trouble, but he was supposed to be in hiding, and he came with the others to rescue us. I didn't see what happened. I heard afterwards."

"Oh, Hermione. I'm so sorry. For ... for your loss." Rikku shook her head. "Is Harry ... okay? I mean, wow. And ... that sounds like such a crazy sort of ... and you have to come right back to classes, like nothing happened ..."

"He's very quiet right now. I have his phone number at home, so I think I'll be calling him when I can," she says. "I had to stay overnight in the hospital wing and they almost didn't let me go because I told them I have a workshop tomorrow I had to get back for."

"That sounds like a good idea. He probably needs someone to talk to, and --" Rikku stared for a moment. "The ... the hospital? Hermione, are you okay?!"

"I'm fine. I used silencio when I should have used expelliarmus and I got hit with a spell. I'm just supposed to get rest for a few days and I'll be fine," she says, completely leaving out any bits where she got thrown across the room or had things attempt to crush her of anything.

Rikku nodded slowly, not sure of the differences between the two and hoping whatever spell had hit Hermione hadn't been too bad.

"If you need rest ... are you sure you should go, tomorrow? To your workshop? I could go and tell them for you and all that. Which one is it?"

"Dealing with Stupid People," Hermione tells her. "Something tells me it won't be that intensive, and it isn't that long. Then I have nothing until Friday. And I feel fine."

Rikku snickered. "Will you get bonus points for not throttling me? For the dimensional hole, I mean."

"I'm not sure yet," Hermione says with a little smile. "I could always ask."
