OOC: Obligatory info post
Sep. 3rd, 2006 02:09 pm*waves* I've done the info pages on Aeryn and Jaye to death, so now it's Hermione's turn.
Hermione in canon
Hermione is basically, in the immortal words of Severus Snape, an insufferable know-it-all. She's a witch, an only child born to dentists, and despite the fact that she wouldn't have had any experience with magic before receiving the letter telling her "Um, about that..." she knew everything she could before getting to school.
At the age of eleven-practically-twelve Hermione started going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She's very good at it, and in her fifth year can do N.E.W.T. level spells. More concerned with learning than making friends, she's not very popular, but Harry Potter and Ron Weasley became her best friends. She's usually the voice of reason, though she has been known to help them out against better judgment, and in one memorable case was actually the instigator. (The Polyjuice Potion didn't work out so well for her...)
Hermione wants to know everything she can, and do something meaningful. She will shove it in your face that she knows something you don't, but at the same time she will help you learn it on your own. She's very good at reading people, seems to at least know everyone even if not closely, likes to help the underdogs and is prone to freaking out when she does something less than perfectly. If the answer to a question isn't found in a book, her whole world's thrown a little bit off. She is brilliant and fiercely loyal and logical and a quick thinker, and also bossy, a stickler for the rules, obsessive, and generally sort of a wet blanket.
She's also a little headstrong and gets really very very into things. Like the house elves. She tends to think of them as more a repressed race rather than one that is simply doing their jobs, but she can't not help them and refuses to listen to reason on the subject. And she will try to get anyone who will listen involved in her cause. *pats her*
Hermione in Fandom
Hermione comes from HP canon after Goblet of Fire. Her parents, a little freaked that a student was murdered more or less at the school, decided to take her out of Hogwarts and put her somewhere she'd be safe. Like a normal school. The Grangers did not do their research well. Hermione likes Fandom just fine, and has acclimated well, but she did spend time at Grimmauld Place over the summer (I can't imagine that she would have actually told her parents about all of that for them to yank her away from time with her friends) and knows what's going on.
The events of OOTP will still take place, only as a sort of AU without Hermione there. She's still going to be involved, though. Time works a little bit funny between Fandom and Hermione's HPverse: she arrived in Fandom in her August of 1995, when here it was May of 2006. Right now I think they're up to October there, and the wonky timeline will continue throughout the year. Right now Hermione's given up on owl post for the important stuff because it's not a secure method of communication, and is instead heading down to the Three-Toed Sloth cabin to stick her head in the fire and into the Gryffindor common room to talk to Ron and Harry herself.
So here's the thing: Hermione really shouldn't know any more details of the big events in OOTP or HBP than she already does. She does know that Dumbledore died, but not the specifics. She's also solidly convinced that telling anyone in her timeline about it will only set things off on that course and make it her fault. (Such as efforts to stop it only leading to his death, or in fact making it worse. And wow, you just can't tell Harry a thing like that.) She's ignoring it and keeping it quiet and will continue to do so. Little things are totally more than fine, but anything regarding things like character death, please ask before going there.
Also, she does tend to carry her wand with her, having gotten special permission from the Ministry to use magic when necessary. She's usually very good about this, but has bent the rules juuuuust slightly once or twice, but it's always been something very minor.
I'm done now. =)
