Room 308, Tuesday morning

Hermione heard the announcement. She thought this would be a huge failure, yes. What's really scary is that it doesn't even alarm her anymore that her first thought was to spend tonight in the hall in a sleeping bag.

She'd made the decision that for every announcement, Umbridge needed to be negatively reinforced. Thusly, she was sitting on her bed, knitting more oddly-shaped socks and wondering whether the dildo cozy conga line should wait a couple days, or if she should just keep up with it the whole week.


[Mostly for people interested in this post. I'm headed to work soon, but will check when I can throughout the day and be back at 5:30 PST. Yay SP!

"Hey Hermione," Sam replied. "Do you know anything about turning people into animals?"

"A little," she said. "...Do I want to know?"

"Umbridge turned Dean into a wolf," Sam explained. "She mentioned you before, like she knew you, and I just thought maybe you'd know what she did to him."

Hermione frowned. "It was bad enough when Rita Skeeter was doing it. At least she was Rita Skeeter and her morals were questionable to begin with," she said. "Transfiguration is not supposed to be used as a punishment!"

"You don't have to do much to convince me of that," Sam argued. "I think she was pissed that Dean and I destroyed her kitten plates. Now I'm wondering if we should have done something more hands-on to her."

"I'm trying to annoy her to the point of leaving," Hermione said, and while she wasn't big on destruction of property she kind of loved knowing the cat plates were gone. "Peter Parker and I were talking about letting animals loose in her office. Now I'm thinking cats should be one type."

She paused. "She wouldn't hurt them, right?"

"She seems fond of cats, so probably not," Sam replied. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Yes," she said. "Things like what you did with the plates is the right idea. But maybe on a smaller scale so she can't punish you as severely, maybe. So far I've only done small things, charming lines of... cozies into her office and things like that. I'm hoping if more people do things like that as sort of a united front, she'll get the point."

Sam nodded. "I'll see what I can come up with. I'm not knitting inclined," he said with a smirk, "but I'm sure there are other things that can be done. No one messes with my brother and gets away with it."

"I'm glad to hear it," she said. "And maybe Dean can help when he's... better."

"He will get better, right? You don't think this is something permanent?"

[smartestone]

"No. Transfiguration can be reversed, if it doesn't wear off. If it doesn't, I can see what I can do to help," she promised.

"Thanks, Hermione. I really appreciate that. I'll let you know if Dean or I do anything else," he said, giving her a wave as he headed back out.
