Room 308, Thursday afternoon

Sometime after her little meeting with Umbridge, Hermione went back to her room and started on a mental to-do list.


1. Call Harry.
With no instructions from Dumbledore not to, Hermione was able to pick up the phone and call the Dursley house. She'd tried calling him before, then realized that the Dursleys kind of didn't want wizarding types calling their house, and pretended to be a neighbor who wanted to yell at Harry for something. Horrifyingly, that got them to give him the phone right away. He couldn't do anything about it, but at least she got to share an omgwtf moment and assure him that she was not letting this happen at two of her schools if she could help it.

2. Call her parents.
Umbridge had mentioned them a little too much for Hermione's comfort, so if they happened to get a little push towards taking that vacation they'd been talking about, well.

3. Call Alec.

4. Write letter to the school board.
It was long and detailed, telling all about what she knew of Umbridge's issues at Hogwarts and all the decrees she'd instated and the scars on Harry's hand. Of course, Hermione totally didn't realize that the school board might not take a sixteen-year-old who disliked her principal seriously, especially with some of those claims.

5. Feed Crookshanks.
Because pets needed to eat.

6. Get back to work on her knitting.
Because this Umbridge had no idea what had been done with the dildo cozies, so it would be a nice surprise when they charmed themselves right into her office.


#6 was what Hermione was working on for the rest of the afternoon. She was terrible at it, but she was determined. And she'd left the door open on purpose.

"You mean the headmistress?" Aravis asked deliberately, glaring at nothing. "Yes. She's quite a piece of work. What are you plotting?"

"Getting her out of my school," she said matter-of-factly. "And I refuse to call her Headmistress. It's not her title here. She's going to have to get used to that."

"No, no, she insists she's the headmaster," Aravis told her. "So I'm calling her headmistress because she's already corrected me on it twice and it irritates her. What did she say to you?"

"That the Dark Lord has not returned and to give her regards to my parents," Hermione said, and added, "which makes more sense when you've spent some time around her."

Aravis blinked. "I've no idea what dark lord is meant, and does she know your family?" she asked, confused.

Hermione suddenly wasn't sure she'd actually told Aravis any of this. "I'm a witch," she says, "and for a long time the wizarding world was being terrorized by a Dark Wizard who was defeated temporarily. Umbridge is still in denial that he's back. And even though I'm a witch, my parents aren't. They're Muggles, non-magical people. To people like her, that's a bad thing. She doesn't know them, but she's trying to make me uneasy." Which had worked.

Aravis processed this, her frown increasing. "Is it obvious? That he's returned, I mean?"

"It is now," she said. "Where I came from, they were finally forced to admit it. I'm not sure if it's the same in her reality, but more likely I think she can't admit she was wrong."

Aravis rolled her eyes. "She called me a liar," she said angrily, "because I told her how the damn school got to be in ruins. It's the truth! I'm sure there's documentation of it. Why would I lie about that?"

"She's extremely closed-minded," Hermione said. "I'd worried about this. There are mutants and aliens here. I don't think she's going to know what to do with that."

Aravis blew out a huff of air. "I doubt it'd be anything good, from how she's acting."

She shook her head. "I saw her standing in the middle of the forest, on the centaurs' ground, calling them half-breeds and trying to tell them what to do. And she probably considers this hers now."

"This?" Aravis was momentarily confused. "Wait, you mean the school? And she called centaurs half-breeds? She insulted centaurs on their own land? How is she still alive?"

"That's exactly what I mean. She was lucky with the centaurs," she said. "It just seems she hasn't learned."

Aravis leaned against the doorframe, pensive. "So how are we making her leave, then?"

"I've written to the school board, detailing what she did at Hogwarts. In the meantime, I think we have to make her want to leave," she explained. "Of course, the problem with annoying her away or making her miserable is that there will be punishments for it."

Aravis waved a hand dismissively. "There is always suffering in war," she replied. "Punishments are not a concern. Can we do something about the office? Those kittens are horrifying."

"I think there are plans to do something about that," she said. "I think Principal Washburn might thank us for that, actually."

"I should hope so. Is there an organized plan of any sort?" Aravis asked. "Or are we all just attacking at will?"
