Room 308, Thursday afternoon

Sometime after her little meeting with Umbridge, Hermione went back to her room and started on a mental to-do list.


1. Call Harry.
With no instructions from Dumbledore not to, Hermione was able to pick up the phone and call the Dursley house. She'd tried calling him before, then realized that the Dursleys kind of didn't want wizarding types calling their house, and pretended to be a neighbor who wanted to yell at Harry for something. Horrifyingly, that got them to give him the phone right away. He couldn't do anything about it, but at least she got to share an omgwtf moment and assure him that she was not letting this happen at two of her schools if she could help it.

2. Call her parents.
Umbridge had mentioned them a little too much for Hermione's comfort, so if they happened to get a little push towards taking that vacation they'd been talking about, well.

3. Call Alec.

4. Write letter to the school board.
It was long and detailed, telling all about what she knew of Umbridge's issues at Hogwarts and all the decrees she'd instated and the scars on Harry's hand. Of course, Hermione totally didn't realize that the school board might not take a sixteen-year-old who disliked her principal seriously, especially with some of those claims.

5. Feed Crookshanks.
Because pets needed to eat.

6. Get back to work on her knitting.
Because this Umbridge had no idea what had been done with the dildo cozies, so it would be a nice surprise when they charmed themselves right into her office.


#6 was what Hermione was working on for the rest of the afternoon. She was terrible at it, but she was determined. And she'd left the door open on purpose.

Tori had definitely heard Hermione's reaction to the morning's announcement and decided to check up on her friend.

She knocked on the doorframe, not wanting to startle her. "Hey Hermione," Tori offered her a smile.

Luke bounced past on his way back from the fourth floor common room after consuming far too many Twinkies.

"Hi, Hermione!" he said, poking his head into her room. "I, um, heard you this morning. With the announcement? You okay?"

Luke sucked at small talk.

Hermione looked up and gave her a little smile. "Hi, Tori. Do you know how to knit?"

"I'll be better when that Umbridge cow is gone," Hermione said immediately. "I'm fine, thanks."

Tori shook her head. "Not especially well, no. Why? Did you need some help?"

"She's a cow?" Luke was strangely literal at times.

He leaned against the door jamb. "You don't seem all that fine," he said quietly. "I can go get onion dip..."

"As much as I can get," she said. "Have you met the 'principal'?"

You could probably hear the quote marks.

"Um, not literally a cow," Hermione said, waving it off. "She taught at my old school and then usurped the Headmaster position. They just got rid of her and she ended up here. Different reality, same person."

"Well, I can try if you'd like," Tori offered. She definitely heard the quote marks in there. "No, but I did hear her announcement this morning and I didn't like it one bit," Tori admitted, shaking her head. "There's just something about her that's not right."

Okay, so drinking at Caritas wasn't really doing it for Prue tonight so she decided to go complain to talk to her fake big sister.

"Hey Hermione." she said, leaning against the door frame. "You busy?"

"It's because she's a horrible woman with power issues and I'm expecting people to start rioting against her probably within the week," she told her. "I know a version of her in my reality."

"I can make time," Hermione said when she saw who it was. "Come in. How are you?"

Well, no wonder Tori hadn't liked Umbridge. She reminded the ninja of Lothor. Power issues and all! "If that happens, I'm totally there with the riot," she admitted, meaning it. "Is it bad that I'm wishing Principal Washburn were back all ready?"

"No, I am, too," Hermione said. "It's too bad she can't- Oooh, I could suggest some suitable replacements who don't power monger."

"'Usurped' isn't good," Luke commented. "What's she like? I'm going with not nearly as perky as she sounded."

"Fine for the most part." she said. "I did meet our lovely new principal today. How much trouble do you think I could get in for putting a school administrator coma?"

Jo didn't get in too much trouble for shooting Hades in the ass...

"Glad I'm not the only one," Tori smiled. "Would that work?"

"Well, she is..." she said slowly. "She also made a friend of mine do lines with a quill that etched the lines into his skin. I'm not sure what to call that."

"Quite a bit, but you won't be alone in that impulse," Hermione said. "I hate that woman."

Luke's jaw dropped. "Sadistic," he said, voice hard.

"Probably not, but that doesn't mean the effort shouldn't be made," she said. "Honestly, she's a horrible woman and considering what she did at my last school, I really don't want to see her do anything like it here."

"Oh no, the effort will be made," Tori nodded, she'd make sure of it. "Do I want to know what she did at your previous school?" She assumed it was something horrible, but still, she was a tiny bit curious. Maybe it would help bring Zoe back faster?

"She spent a full year denying that a Dark Wizard was alive and is still denying it despite her organization catching us fighting his minions, she put up educational decrees limiting every freedom the students had, she kept them from learning anything useful because of course Harry had to be lying and let's make an example of him..." She took a breath, realizing what she was saying. "Um. Sorry."

"Don't be," Luke said softly. "You know what we're going to be up against. The power hungry always overreach. How long did it take for your old school to catch on? How did she get her information? What kept the teachers from killing her outright? How was she gotten rid of?"

Luke wasn't quite as naive as he looked.

"I only heard about most of it in letters from my friends, but she was horrible. She restricted Defense Against Dark Arts so that people were only learning theory instead of actual spells that might help them against a Dark Wizard who she was convinced didn't exist anymore, tortured a friend of mine in detention, set up so many rules that after a while they didn't even make sense, let the Ministry completely take over Hogwarts, and then she tried to have the Headmaster arrested so she could take the position," Hermione said. "And that's just what I heard."
