Room 308, Tuesday afternoon

Hermione didn't have any kid emo to worry about, which she thought was a really good thing, timingwise. It meant she was able to concentrate on what she was doing: wondering how she'd accumulated so much stuff over the last two years.

Everything she didn't think she would need before Friday was going in the bottomless trunk, which she was pretty sure she'd need Hagrid to lift by the time she was through. This was taking longer than she'd thought it would, and she blamed last year's discovery of Amazon for it.


[Post and door are open, though I've spent a ridiculous amount of time sleeping off sickness today, so I'll probably be slow.]

"Why? What's happening now?" Ron asked looking concerned.

She shook her head. "Something happens at the end of the year, every year. And every year it gets worse," she explained. "It makes more sense to be there in case- or when- something does, where I'm closer."

Ron frowned. Of course he knew that. Maybe he just didn't want to admit it.

"Fine," Ron said. "But you're not going alone."

Hermione looked amused, but hearing him say that did make her feel a lot better. "Should I tell my parents to prepare for a houseguest?" she asked. "It makes no sense to sign up for classes if I'll only leave in June, so I'm only going to be staying with them for a while."

Because, after all, Hermione rarely actually stayed with her own parents. Breaks were for Weasley visits.

Ron thought about that for a second. "If it's not an imposition," he said in a tentative fashion. "And if they don't mind Pig making a racket all the time."

She hadn't expected him to want to, and immediately she started thinking up ways to make this happen. "Well, I'd have to convince my parents..." she said thoughtfully.

"Never mind then," Ron said shaking his head. "Probably best for me to stay at my parents. I can probably catch wind of what's happening back home that way."

"Oh. Okay. It's not like we won't be anywhere near each other or anything there," she nodded.

"Or out of contact," Ron said with a nod. "Have you heard anything from home that I should be looking into?"

"I can show you the most recent issues of the Prophet," she offered. Those were staying out of the trunk until last minute, yes. "Though you can never be sure whether there's any truth to it. I'm so curious to see what things are really like back there."

Ron frowned. He didn't realize this might mean actual reading. "Well Harry did write me a bit ago. Mostly it was about Quidditch and him and Ginny

"Oh, right." Not wanting to get him on the subject of that or how must she knew about it, she said, "So he didn't mention anything else?"

"No," Ron said shaking his head. "Not that he'd tell me anything because then he'd know I'd tell you and then we'd yell at him for being stupid and thick."

"We? I thought yelling about that sort of thing was my job?"

"Yes, but I've always taken your side," Ron protested.

Well, most of the time he did.

Okay, he took her side when it was important.
