Room 308, Tuesday night

Despite the papers in front of her, Hermione actually wasn't studying. She'd just finished the latest letter from Viktor and was trying to write back, but wasn't finding too much to say. This may have been a sign that she needed to get out more. Not that she was telling anyone else that because she'd never hear the end of it, but she did realize it.

The door was open.

[For one specifically.]

Ferris leaned against the door frame. "Hi, whatcha doing?" He didn't wait for an answer. "Before you ask, I'm completely unarmed. No pillows or blankets or plans to mess up the common room in sight." He glanced around her room.

"What? A guy can't stop by a floor mate's room to say hi these days? It was all the rage in the 80s." He was, as usual, making stuff up as he went along.

"I thought it was a very good start to a conversation," Ferris protested, arms folded across his chest. "The hi leads into other things, like 'how are you?' and 'seen any good movies lately?' although I won't ask that last one because I'm afraid anyone from the future I ask will spoil the ending of the next 10 years of big summer movies."

"Sure." He gave as sheepish a smile as Ferris Bueller could actually manage, not being a very sheepish kind of guy. He took a few steps in and looked around. He did a turn on the spot slowly, then spun around to face her. "I hear there's a dance this week for Valentine's Day. Wanna go?"

"You sound surprised. I thought we had the basics of conversation perfected. One of us greets the other, we exchange a few quips, you frown at me for something I'm doing, I assure you it's not as bad as it seems and then I ask you a question and you give an answer. Granted," he said, sitting down on one the edge of one of the beds, "I only have one conversation to base this on excluding this one, but I think it's a good trend that we started and I'd like to keep going with it. Wanna go to the dance with me?"

"Great!" Ferris said, standing back up and clapping his hands together once. "I'll pick you up here half an hour before it starts."

He smiled at that, not laughing at her, but still a little amused at being thanked. "Hey, I should be thanking you. You don't know what it does to a guy's ego to be turned down." He headed for the door. "It's not pretty," he said, turning once he got there.

"Night Hermione." He flashed her a smile which he then shared with the audience and headed down the hallway whistling Danke Schoen to himself.
