Hermione is at her desk with a book open, devouring the information as quickly and thoroughly as possible. Ron and Harry might not get it, but someone else here does and that is reassuring.

Crookshanks is sitting on the bed, looking bored. He might also possibly be looking for something to chase.

Faithful stalked out of the common room and was heading for Alanna's room when he noticed Crookshanks. "Meow!"

Crookshanks perks up a little, tilting his head at the other cat.

Hermione doesn't look until she's finished the paragraph. "Hello," she says. "I wonder if you're lost."

Faithful meowed a greeting at Crookshanks. "No, just pissed off."

Crookshanks meows a greeting back.

Meanwhile, Hermione's jaw is dropped. "You speak?" she asks, realizing it's a dumb question.

Your owner is slow.

"No, I'm just a figment of your imagination." Faithful didn't roll his eyes. Really.

She's usually better than this.

"Well, I'm sorry, I'm not used to talking cats," Hermione sighs. "Are you a student? Some sort of special Animagus?"

I'll take your word for it. What's your name?

"No. I'm a cat." Faithful helpfully pointed out.

Crookshanks. What's yours?

"Yes, I can see that. But how?"

Faithful. Humans are so imaginative.

"I'm sure you can find a fine explanation of feline reproduction in a book somewhere." Faithful informed her.

They think they are.

"If you can't be polite, you don't have to be here," she points out.

What's your owners name, since she's not going to be polite and introduce herself?

Faithful blinked at Hermione. "I'm a caaaat. A cat who was just given a bath against his will. Being polite is not part of the job description."

Hermione. She's going to be haughty for a while.

"Crookshanks is very well-behaved," she protests.

Crookshanks gives what is the cat version of a nod. Of course he means it.

Faithful snorted. Sure you are.

"Can you tell what Crookshanks is thinking in a given moment?"

"I'm not a mind-reader," Hermione says matter-of-factly.

A well behaved cat? That's not physically possible.

"We probably have one around here somewhere." Faithful reasured her.

The trick is to behave in front of her.

"I'll ask around," she says evenly.

I don't even bother. Mine wouldn't notice.

"You do that." Faithful turned his full attention to Crookshanks.

Everyone else does. They complain, she doesn't believe it. It's a good system.

Hermione sighs.

Faithful chuckled. I find Alanna doesn't really care what I do as long as I apologize afterwards. Plus, she's so much worse than me.

Two years. It's interesting.

"You know," Hermione says. "This is my room."

Over four years for me. Iteresting doesn't even begin to cover it. Is she always this bossy?
