Hermione's trying very hard to finish off her letter to the Ministry. She got them to let her use magic here, so maybe they'll be easier-going on her without Harry's influence, and Professor McGonagall already said she'd help argue her case if need be, but still, she wants this to be perfect. And if all goes well, she'll be able to be back at Hogwarts in June just to take her O.W.L.S.

Crooshanks is at the foot of her bed... doing absolutely nothing.

Rikku gasped. "Whoa! Did you see that? He just split!"

She got down on her hands and knees next to the dog - now dogs. "Are you hurt? Er, any of you?!"

"That's Jamie!" Hermione says. "What happened to you?"

"I'm sorry, I can't understand you," she says, frowning. "I could try to Transfigure you back, but without knowing what happened I don't want to give you four tails by accident."

Jamie whimpered and laid his head down on his paws. //This is so humiliating.//

Rikku leaned over and attempted to scritch one of the dogs behind the ears. "It's okay, puppies. I mean Jamies. Valentine got turned into a chicken once, but he got turned back. That means people can fix stuff like this, right?"

And that's when the rear leg started thumping out of control.

Crookshanks tries to jump out of Hermione's arms, but she's got a pretty good strangle grip on him. That might be why he's trying to get away. "Do you need anything? Food? Water? ...Bath?"

"I don't have any dog food, but I think cat food is kind of the same thing," she says, "and you can use Crookshanks' water ball."

Oh, the cat is really happy with her.

Jamie shook his head rapidly and absorbed his other duplicate pups.

//Thanks! But I'll just find something else.//

And with a wag of his tail and a yip that could be construed as a "Thank You", Jamhuahua headed for the door.
