Room 308, early Wednesday morning

Hermione didn't really sleep last night, or at least didn't sleep that well. She kept waking up to scratch at her hand, or was doing so while half-asleep. Around sunrise she finally gives up and sits up, pulling off the bandage she'd put on to study it.

Despite trying to take care of it, it seems to be worse. It hurts to close her hand, and her palm is even redder and more swollen. And if she's not mistaken, that seems to be a tinge of green around what is very obviously bite marks.

"Huh," she says quietly, frowning and replacing the bandage. Where anyone else would head to the clinic first thing, Hermione decides she should probably head towards the library, if only to find out what bit her. If it was some sort of bug, a spider maybe, she could at least give them some information then.

Rikku rubbed her eyes, sitting up. "'Ermi-ne?" she mumbled. Way too early.

She sat up a bit more when she saw her roommate touch the bandage. "Hey. What's wrong?"

"I seem to have been bitten by something," she says, making a face at her hand. "I'm pondering a clinic visit later."

Rikku hopped out of bed and walked over to her roommate, noticing how the ugly swelling was creeping out from behind the bandage.

"Whoa. That looks infected." She crouched down. "How bad does it hurt?"

"It's fine unless I bend my hand." She demonstrates, wincing a little. "I'm sure they could lance it and it would be fine, but look at this."

She pulls off the bandage again, letting Rikku see the little greenish lines spreading out from the bite.

Rikku's eyes widen. "Whoa. That's really bad, Hermione." She leans over, examining. "Red lines like that mean your blood's been poisoned somehow, and you need to get the infection out. I've never seen green ones."

"Neither have I," she says. "Given some of the things in Fandom, though, I'm not sure what it could be. I want to do some research, so I have an idea of what bit me when I do go to the clinic, though. Best that they have all the information I can give them."

Rikku gasps. "Something bit you? That's not good at all." She looks at the wound again. "Maybe you could send someone else to look for it, so you can go straight to the clinic? I mean, what did it look like?"

She tries to remember anything else useful about infected wounds. "Do you feel warm? Sweaty or dizzy?"

"I feel fine," she says. "And I don't know what it was. I was in the preserve the other day, but other than that I've only been here. I'm hoping I can find maybe a good book on, I don't know, bites or medicine or something and compare this bite to the description."

"If you're okay for now, then you're probably right. Research first." She jumps up abruptly. "Can I help?"

"Oh, please," she says with a little smile. "I'd appreciate the help."

Rikku grins. "Great! I'm in." She looks down at her pajamas as an afterthought. "Uh, after I get dressed, I mean."

"Great," she smiles. "I'll meet you down there?"

Rikku bounces and waves. "You bet!"
