En route to America
Honestly, Hermione's not used to traveling to school by so-called normal means anymore.Since she was eleven she's been running into a brick wall just to get on the train to Hogwarts. Once they got to Hogsmeade, carts pulled by invisible creatures took them the rest of the way. That being said, dealing with airports and planes to get somewhere feels a bit abnormal.
She also isn't used to being bored on the journey. Ron and Harry are always there for company (except of course for that one year) at least, and this year she probably would have had prefect duties that would keep her busy. Instead, she is sitting in an aisle seat in complete silence, and she doesn't even have any books for the next year to study yet. Finally tiring of this, she reaches under the seat in front of her, pulls out a notebook and pen, and begins to write.
Dear Harry,
Not to sound too much like Ron, but I'm bored so far and I haven't even made it over the ocean yet. I still can't believe I won't be at school with the two of you this year. I even wrote Professor McGonagall and asked her to speak to my parents, but she said it didn't seem like her place to do so. Not that I think she would have been able to convince them.
I expect you to write me and tell me everything, since I know Ron won't. If anything happens, I want to hear about it, and not from someone else. I'll make sure to write back and let you know how the school is and what the people are like. I can't imagine going to a "normal" school, especially since I have no idea what this place is like. I'm sure there's a book about it somewhere in the library. (Don't roll your eyes.) It'll also be strange to not be able to use magic here all year, though I do have a plan for that.
Take care of yourself, and don't get into too much trouble.
Love from,
Hermione
There isn't any way to send it here, but she decides she'll find a way to get it to him once she's in Fandom. Until then, it's boredom, and ignoring the in-flight movie in favor of rereading fiction books she'd forgotten about in all this time. They lack a little something now.
