Room 308, Saturday morning

Hermione is in far too good a mood, especially given how early she was awake. She had started off trying to finish the Transfiguration book, writing detailed notes, but she keeps randomly smiling and it's distracting her.

Finally she puts the book down, goes to her desk, and starts a letter.

Dear Ginny,

I probably should have written you before this, but I've been so busy and I know you wouldn't have received it before last night anyway. It's homecoming weekend here, where the alumni come back and there was a big dance last night. I did go. I hadn't been paying much attention to it, but I found a note outside my door from a boy named JD, and we met at the coffee house later. He also had a note from me, which I didn't write. I have no idea who left them, but I'm glad they did. I had so much fun, and he's really nice, and cute. He asked me to teach him how to dance, so I think I'll be seeing him again. Also, unlike the Yule Ball, I didn't have to yell or cry at all.

I've been working a lot, too. I'm taking five classes, including one which tends to get longer reports than any I'd ever written at Hogwarts, and one which forced me to buy another notebook due to the length of the lectures. I've finished the reading selection for Literature, and I'm still studying the schoolbooks I was sent. On top of that, Willow asked me to help her handwavily turn a pumpkin into a carriage for Bel, and that took some practice, due to a lot of factors. I did get my hands on a seventh year Transfiguration book, and have to return it this weekend. Yes, I have realized that you'll scold me in your reply for writing an entire paragraph about studying. Oddly enough, there are people here who could probably do worse.

Parents Weekend is also at the end of the month, and as much as I would love to see my parents, I'm hoping they don't receive the invitation. I don't think they would take too kindly to hearing about aliens and mutants and gremlins at what they thought was a normal school. They would probably take me out of school, and while I wouldn't mind being home again, I'm actually able to do things here, and Hunting class is teaching me a lot of things I think I need to know. I'm not sure what to do if they do come here.

I think I've gone on long enough. I'm very curious to hear what has been happening there. I know it's probably a lot for one letter, so I understand if you can't tell me everything. I hope to hear from you soon.

Love from,
Hermione

As soon as she's finished, she decides to head to the post office later. Now that it's all out of her system, she can go back to studying.
